Donington Le Heath Manor House

Leicestershire's Finest Medieval Manorial Building

Donington Le Heath Manor House The earliest family to have lived in a house on the site were the de Sees family who are recorded at Donington in the late 12th and early 13th century. In about 1290 Robert and isabella de Hurle moved to Donington. Robert was the lawyer of John Comyn, Earl of Buchan, an exiled Scottish nobleman living at Whitwick Castle. Robert clearly needed to live close to the Earl but not close enough to be drawn into the internal politics of the household!

In 1972 the house opened to the public and in 1974 became part of the Leicestershire Museums Service. Until 1997 the house was operated as a furnished historic house but lately it has been developed as a museum with a temporary exhibition programme and a series of monthly events.
